Happy Birthday StarBoy "Wizkid"

Today, I’m reminded of Starboy Wizkid‘s BBC 1Xtra session where he covered reggae legend, Bob Marley‘s songs Joy/No Woman No Cry. In his typically creative manner, he adapted the lyrics to suit the life he’s well lived the last twenty-three years. Born July 16, 1990, it’s been nothing but joy for Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun. His odyssey to fame hasn’t exactly been rid of life’s ills. He’s had his fair share of ups and downs, which made for a beautiful plot when he decided to officially share that story with the world in a Superstar titled album.

While the world earnestly awaits his sophomore album (with release dates that have shifted almost a full calendar year now), Wizkid’s 24-year sojourn on Earth is a constant reminder that no matter how small you are or people perceive you to be, if you have a big dream, you can achieve it. He is an inspiration with tenets founded on sheer hardwork and persistence, not sleeping and dreaming. But guess what, a good life is never as rosy as it appears on the eyes. Wizkid is still paying the price because great power only comes with greater responsibilities.

So here’s to more success and achievements with birthday regards to last our Starboy all day long.
