Nigeria’s popular highlife star Chinedu Okoli better known as Flavour, might not have made mistake of running away from home after all; because what he had passion for is actually putting food on his table and enabling him to show care to others.

Flavour speaking about his ordeal to stardom, said that he initially wanted to do hip hop like his partners in the industry, but noticed that he was not accepted, so decided to throw his weight on his root which is sending his message through his local language and as such making him delve into highlife songs.

“When I left Enugu for Lagos, many studio men and music bands turned me down on the grounds that they didn’t understand my type of music. I found out that Lagosians have this type of music that they like. They didn’t like my type of music until later. It was that time we used to go to joints on Saturdays to sing for big men. I caught their attention first before I later switched to highlife. They liked it and even sprayed me money.”

According to Flavour, he stated that he recorded his first track in 2003, but to him, it was not nice, so had to wait for another four years to stage a better come back.

“I recorded my first track in 2003. I listened to it, didn’t like it and I discarded it and took my time. I felt I needed to be patient and not rush to fame. I didn’t want people to reject my song. Then I worked for Four years, after which I went back to music in a very big way in 2007.”
