The last six months of 2016 witnessed the passing away of many Nigerian celebrities. They came, they performed, and exited!

Letsdanzit remembers 18 Nigerian entertainers that have passed on this year.

1. Music producer/singer, OJB Jezreel

OJB Jezreel died on Tuesday, June 14, a week after his kidney transplant had failed completely. He was down with kidney related disease, and consequently was flown to India for a transplant in 2013.


2. Actress, Henrietta Kosoko

Henrietta passed away on Monday June 6, about a year after the actress survived a near-fatal accident along Sagamu-Abeokuta road. 

3. Former Super Eagles captain and coach, Stephen Keshi

Keshi, who reportedly died from cardiac arrest this morning was the captain of the squad which emerged as champion at 1994 Africa Cup of Nations tournament held in Tunisia.

4. Actor, Sikiru Adeshina aka Arakangudu

Arakangudu playing the role of a king in popular Yoruba movie ‘Osa Eleye’, which starred Lere Paimo, Fadeyi Oloro, Dagunro and Peter Fatomilola.

5. Actor, Fatai Onibuade

Ajiboye Fatai Onibuade more popularly known as ‘Legend’ died on Tuesday, May 17, 2016. 

6. Actor, Mike Odiachi

Mike passed on after a brief illness at a general hospital in Ikorodu, Lagos on February 15. 

7. Actress, Genevieve Nene

The rising actress died on Sunday May 1, 2016 just as she was recuperating from typhoid fever.

Olamide reportedly died at the General Hospital, Ikeja where he was rushed to after complaining of stomach pains in January, aged 14

12. Former Super Eagles manager, Shuaibu Amodu

Amodu reportedly complained of chest pains earlier and subsequently died in his sleep. He first managed the Nigerian national team from April 2001 to February 2002, while also taking the reins in April 2008 and October 2014. He was always on hand to steer the affairs of the national team when in need.

‘Iyawo Asiko’ crooner who is in his early 40s died, March 21, at an undisclosed hospital in Opebi, Ikeja Lagos.

The Agege-based fuji artist reportedly died in his home in Agbado, Lagos in the early hours of Wednesday, May 18, 2016.

According to his relative, Elechi passed on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at the Good Heart Hospital in Port Harcourt at the age of 82. Amadi, among the first generation of African writers and novelists, is best known for authoring the popular novel, ‘The Concubine‘.
