After
much buzz and anticipation, the Beat of Lagos 5 (The Carnival) lit the
city of Lagos up over the weekend.
Thousands of Lagosians trooped to the
Muri Okunola Park in Victoria Island to participate in what will
perhaps be remembered as Nigeria’s most colourful youth driven carnival
yet.
The carnival opened by 2pm with
an array of giant sized board games, face painting ,electronic gaming, a
mash of pop music served by the MotBenson in-house DJ and was refreshed
by Cocacola. The park lit up by sunset as various new acts got on stage
to showcase their talents just before DJ Caise got the crowd really
hyper with his spins and hype. This was followed by performances by
IceBerg Slim, CDQ, Terry Apala, Dammy Krane , Kiss Daniel and Reminisce
with Pencil the comedian as the host .
The
highlight of the night was when Kiss Daniel got announced as the winner
of the Beat of Lagos Award and was presented with a N7,000,000 million
Naira land by Adron Homes.
Last year, the award was presented to Adekunle Gold who narrowly beatt his label mate and signee ‘Olamide’.
The carnival attended by over 5,000 people was a brilliant canvass of pop culture.
